• Adult Classes (beginning & intermediate) are ongoing & limited to the first 8 paid registrants. $ 169 covers a total of 6 classes, plus $ 1.50/lb material fee for works that you want to have fired (includes studio glazes & firings). The largest selection of tools & equipment are provided.

    Each class will be given demonstrations, and shown different working techniques along with personal instruction. You choose the projects that you are interested in. Glazing will be covered as each student is ready to glaze. Let’s have fun!!!

    passed down through the Bauhaus, a tradition traced back to the 15th century in Germany. With over 30 years experience as a production potter, he offers answers for all levels of clay enthusiasts.

    Flat Rock Clay turns 5 this month and is having a Big Birthday Bash (sale April 25-26) and Spring Fling (party April 26) at Flat Rock Clay. The Spring Fling Sat, April 26 will include Yosuki from Shimpo doing demos, local potters selling wares, supply specials including a handful of used equipment, and Fun and Games throughout the day.     Each class is limited to the first 8 paid registrants. $169 For 6 classes along with $1.50/lb of clay for items you want to keep. Demonstrations will be given each class and glazing demonstrations will be as needed. These are for beginning to intermediate students; Those looking for more advanced levels should look into our monthly topical workshops or studio space.

    We limit our class sizes so that each person can get the instructions they need. The classes are also on-going, so if you need to miss a week for some reason, you don’t fall behind. If you do miss a class, it can be made up later. You are allowed one make-up class per paid session.

    Open Studio Memberships: Studio space is also available for a rate of $75-115 a month (this price does not include clay, supplies or firing fees). Access to studio 9a-9p up to 7 days/week. You have to know what you’re doing in order to get a membership.

    Flat Rock Studios is a privately owned clay studio. We established it in 2002 for those with an interest in pottery and sculptural clay as well as those in need of a place to work in a community format. The aim of the studio is to expose individuals to the excitement of working with clay and the firing process at multiple levels while building community. We enjoy learning and so will you.

  • Thursday April 12 at 6pm, Youske Kosimue from Shimpo Pottery Wheels will be at Flat Rock Clay for a wonderful evening of throwing demonstration.

    The masterful skill for which he throws is mesmerizing to watch. You will be amazed by how easy he makes it look.

    If you missed him last year, make sure to mark your calender to attend this time.

    This is a FREE event and the public is welcome to attend.

  • Robin Hopper will be conducting a special 3 day workshop of intense learning March 2-4, 2007. He will be demonstrating a combination of wheel work, both functional and one-of-a-kind assemblage and finishing the works with colored clay techniques, traditional slip ware, brush work and many more decoration techniques. There will also be some coverage of simplified glaze and color development.Most of Robin’s workshops are conducted in auditoriums with 50 to 300+ in attendance, but at Flat Rock, we keep it personal with 12-25 at our workshops. Thus giving you a good chance to get one-on-one time with the artist. Also if you are from out of the area, we can try to help you find a local clay artist to stay with. Just ask.

    $395/person and space is limited. 9:30-4:30 F, and Sat and 9:30-3:30 on Sunday so that those traveling have a chance to get home reasonably.

    Robins Books will be available. His latest book came out Dec 23 and we are also taking orders now for it - Robin Hopper: A Lifetime of Works, Ideas and Techniques. It is a great introduction to the workshop, but nothing beats the real thing!
