ArtBuzz: Tall Order: Champion Trees and Old Growth
Friday, February 5, 11 a.m.-12 p.m.

Champion Trees – on record as the largest of their kind in the state or nation – and old growth forests often have intriguing stories to tell about how they escaped the axe. Burnetta Hinterthuer will share how to read the clues that explain their longevity as she talks about the best ways to appreciate and preserve our native landscape.

Burnetta Hinterthuer is Professor of Biology and Plant Science at NorthWest Arkansas Community College. Earlier in her career, she worked for a number of federal agencies including the Buffalo National River, United States Forest Service, and the Soil Conservation Service. Ms. Hinterthuer holds a master’s degree in botany from the University of Arkansas and has actively studied Ozark plants for more than thirty years.

Discover Art: From the Heart
Saturday, February 13, 10 a.m.-12 p.m.

Free drop-in family program. Best for children 5-12 years old and their adult partners; no registration. Discover Art programs are led by Janelle Redlaczyk, youth and families program coordinator.

Share your love for the environment and those close to you by creating Valentine’s Day treasures and tokens with our special guests from Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area. The park interpreters are bringing lots of fun activities for you to make and share!

Preschool Story Time: Our Beautiful World
Friday, February 19, 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.

Free preschool drop-in program; no registration. Best for children 3 – 5 years old and their caregivers.
Presented right in the gallery at Crystal Bridges at the Massey, children will enjoy wonderful books featuring the wonders of nature, followed by hands-on fun with “tree cookies,” (no, we won’t eat them!) Guest storyteller is Sue Ann Pekel, children’s librarian, Bentonville Public Library and art activities are led by Janelle Redlaczyk.

Lunchtime Movie: American Values: American Wilderness
Friday, February 19, 12 – 1 p.m.

A diverse group of Americans share their love for wilderness in this moving documentary narrated by Christopher Reeve. The inspiring photography highlights their experiences and hopes for the beautiful wild lands that have captured their hearts.

ArtBuzz: Landscaping with Native Plants
Friday, February 26, 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Landscaping with native plants provides color, texture and shape for the garden and homes for local wildlife. Scott Eccleston will share both innovative and classic techniques to beautify the homestead and improve the environment with native plantings.
Scott Eccleston is the manager of parks and grounds at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. He earned his bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture from Oklahoma State University. For almost twelve years before joining the museum he ran his own landscape architecture design/build firm, which specialized in residential and commercial projects.
