Our natural world captivates and inspires me to stand before the easel. The patterns of sunlight and shadow, whether on land, water, or on the human face, design my work. Capturing these fleeting images is a challenge that keeps me constantly painting.
Artist, Judy Maurer was born in Des Moines, Iowa with a keen interest in drawing. An older brother shared with her much of his natural artistic talent. Abandoning art as a young adult, she raised her family and pursued a successful career in technology. Leaving the business world early, allowed her time to pursue her art and she began her artistic journey with determination and focus.
Since that beginning, she has worked through painting animals, pets, landscapes and portraits primarily in pastel and studied with many nationally recognized artists. Her current creative direction is figures and landscapes in oil.
In the past several years, she has taught drawing, pastel, and oil painting for Fayetteville Arkansas Adult Education, served as a judge for the Buffalo River National Park Service Artist-in-Residence program and provided demos and programs for various art clubs. Two of her landscapes were included, with one featured on the back cover, in The Best of America Artists and Artisans published by Kennedy Publishing, Inc. 2007. Her work is among the permanent collection of the Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art in St. Joseph, Missouri.
She is a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America, former Arkansas State Ambassador for the Portrait Society of America, a Signature Member of the Artists of Northwest Arkansas, a member of Oil Painters of America and the Plein Air Painters of the Ozarks.
She currently divides her time between Gold Canyon Arizona and Northwest Arkansas.
