Choreographers and works being presented:

Choreographer, Emily Viator, will present three works.  The first is a musical theater adaptation from the musical Wicked, and the second is an original contemporary pas de deux called 9 Crimes featuring the music of Damien Rice.  The third work Viator will present is a contemporary solo called Woman’s Work to music by Kate Bush.

Choreographer, Beth Hickman, will present a comedic musical theater number called “Where were you in ’62?  Waiting for the bus!”  This dance features the music of Dave Grusin and takes a whimsical look back at times gone by as two friends wait at a downtown bus stop.

Choreographer, Sally Ashcraft, will present a dance called “The Rehearsal,” which offers a brief glimpse into the pre-show preparations of the dancers and choreographers on the opening night of a show.  13 dancers will dance their way through rehearsal to final production in this tongue-in-cheek number, set to the popular song “The Hustle.”

Guest Artist, Sean Burnett, will present a dance called “The Hip Hop Rebirth,” to the song “Universal Mind Control” by Common, which will feature the talents of four local hip hop dancers.

Guest Artist, Candice Jackson, will present a contemporary movement piece to the song “Sweetest Love.”  The dance, which is a solo, was developed through improvisational movements and shapes inspired by the music and the dancer.

Guest Artist, Amanda Dooly, will present a modern dance called “Heroes” to music by Brendan James, as a tribute to the brave soldiers serving over seas and those who have fallen in the line of duty.  The dance features four dancers, moving together and independently as they tell a story about duty, life, grief, and frustration.

Guest Artist, Stephanie Thibeault, will present an excerpt from “Blind Faith” to music by Regina Carter, featuring the talents of two UALR dance students, who are traveling to Northwest Arkansas to perform with Dance Coalition.  Stephanie is the program director for dance at UALR and also serves on the advisory board of Dance Coalition.

Other works that will be featured include a short variation from the classical ballet, Don Quixote, and a number presented by Desert Fire Belly Dance.
