The Fulbright College department of music will feature the University of Arkansas Tuba Quartet in concert on Tuesday evening, Oct. 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall. They will be performing pieces by Michael Nickens, Dmitri Shostakovich, Christopher Lee, J.S. Bach, Meyer Kupferman, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Gordon Jacob.
The Arkansas Tuba Quartet was founded in 2007 as a high-level performing ensemble for tuba and euphonium graduate students at the University of Arkansas. The group performs each semester on the U of A campus and was featured at the 2008 International Tuba-Euphonium conference in Cincinnati, Ohio. The ATQ performs original works for the tuba quartet medium as well as a variety of transcriptions and arrangements from various style periods. The members for this semester are U of A tuba professor, Benjamin Pierce and graduate students Greg Battista, Matt Shipes, and Jason Tacker.
The Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall is located in the Fine Arts Building on the UA campus. Free parking is available in the parking deck, which can be accessed from Stadium Drive and is located directly to the west of the Fine Arts Building.
