Summer at YouthCAN!’s Community Imagination Studio
Join us at YouthCAN!’s Community Imagination Studio this summer as we explore the world. No need to pack a suitcase for this vacation, we will travel the globe through art. From Australia to France, we’ll make art from a different country every Saturday from 10 - 4, June 14th - August 23rd. Participants will receive their very own passport to keep track of their travels, and we’ll end our journeys with an International Art Show at the studio.
The Studio will also be offering Mommy and Me classes for children 18 months to 5 years to explore art in all of its messiness on alternating Tuesdays and Wednesdays through the summer months. Additionally, the summer Visiting Artist Workshop series will be in full swing offering a workshop in new painting techniques, basic knitting to get a head start on creating holiday gifts and exploring Arkansas’ music through creating a personalized jug band.
FAMILY DAY
Free Family Day at YouthCAN!’s Community Imagination Studio
YouthCAN!’s Community Imagination Studio hosts Family Day the first Saturday of each month. During our Family Day program, we open our studio to all families in Northwest Arkansas to come and participate in family themed art projects for free.
June’s Family Day will be held on Saturday, June 7th from 10-4pm. This Family Day’s theme is “Painting and Planting!” Come paint stepping stones and fabric banners to decorate our yard and help us plant flowers to liven up the exterior of the studio! We invite everyone to bring any sun loving perennial plants they’d like to donate - either from the store or straight from your own yard!
We will also celebrate Father’s Day by making Father’s Day cards, plus our painting Studio will be open as usual.

During Saturday Studio Hours, we open our doors to community members of all ages to come, use our studio space and art supplies to paint, draw, make collages, or get creative with clay. Staff artists will be on hand to help guide you. Each week, we will have featured projects that participants may also choose to participate in. Featured projects for Saturday, June 14th : We will be kicking off our Summer Art Series, Passport to Art! The first country we will visit is Australia. We will learn about Aboriginal art, and make our own works in similar styles by learning about rock and bark painting. JUNE’S ARTIST WORKSHOP SERIES

The Workshop Series will be held on the 3rd Saturday of every month and involves a demonstration of the facilitating artists’ methods, guided instruction, and a chance for participants to get feedback on their work.
June’s Saturday Workshop will be June 21st from 2-4. On this day you can come and learn about acrylic painting with Duane Gardner, a local Fayetteville artist. Workshop fee is $10 per participant, ages 10+. Pre-registration is required. The Community Imagination Studio is located at 818 N. Sang Ave., in Fayetteville. Featured Projects for June 4th: Welcome this summer with all kinds of fun projects for outside! We will be learning how to tie dye and making bug hotels. We will also be painting with fun summer colors.
Featured Projects for June 10th: This week’s theme is Bon Voyage! Come visit the studio and travel to the other side of the world! We will create art projects from Australia and South Africa. We will paint rocks and bark and create drums and masks. We will also be celebrating Father’s day by creating Father’s Day cards.
Featured Projects for June 18th. This week’s theme is Go Diego Go! Go Diego Go! Will be playing at the Walton Arts Center next Saturday. At the Studio, we will create a rainforest collage and make a backpack for your own exploring adventures.
Featured Projects for June 24th: Come and find out what happens on a country’s birthday! We will celebrate the upcoming 4th of July holiday by creating a party pack that will have a visor and a never ending sparkler. We will also be painting.

Featured projects for Saturday, July 12th: Passport to Art! Join us this week as we travel through art to visit Turkey and China! We will be weaving rugs and painting ceramic tiles.
Featured projects for Saturday, July 19th: Passport to Art! This week’s theme is Japan! We will create netsuke, or miniature Japanese sculptures, origami, soft sculptures, and rice paper lanterns.
Featured projects for Saturday, July 26th : Passport to Art! This week we’ll visit Italy! Stop by and paint upside down like Michelangelo, learn to make figure sculptures and figure drawings. We will also be making Arte Povera, or “poor art” out of rocks sticks and twine.

Featured Projects for July 16th: This week we will be reading “Black Meets White” by Justine Fontes. We will be creating tape and paper resist paintings and interactive collages.
Featured Projects for July 22nd: This week’s theme is Passport to Art! Come to the studio and visit Italy and Japan. We will experience what Michelangelo felt like as he painted lying down. We will also paint landscapes and make paper lanterns.
Featured Projects for July 30th: Vroom! Clatter! Smack! During this class we will create art that moves! We will make a balloon car, noisemakers and kites.

Featured projects for Saturday, August 23rd: Passport to Art! Join us for an end of the summer celebration. We will be hosting an International Art Show! Stop by and see the art from around the world that was created during our Passport to Art program.

Featured Projects for August 5th: This week we will learn about Native American folk tales, and fine arts. We will create our own pinch pots, dream catchers and make sand paintings.
Featured Projects for August 13th: This week’s theme is “Where is the Beach?” We will create an ocean in a bottle, beach themed diorama, and paintings.
Featured Projects for August 19th: This week’s theme is “Back to School.” This week we will create a bottle bank to hold our college savings!
Featured Projects for August 27th: This week’s projects are inspired by local art shows. We will make sculptures inspired by Eugene Sergeant’s work at the DDP Gallery, and create picture books inspired by Wendell Minor’s work at Crystal Bridges at the Massey.
