Free Family Day at YouthCAN!’s Community Imagination Studio
YouthCAN!’s Community Imagination Studio hosts Family Day the first Saturday of each month. During our Family Day program, we open our studio to all families in Northwest Arkansas to come and participate in family themed art projects.
Our next Family Day will be held on Saturday, May 3rd from 10-4pm. This Family Day we will celebrate Mother’s Day by making pop-up cards and Cinco de Mayo by making masks, and paper flowers. Our Painting Studio will also be open.
Family Day events are free for all participants and no pre-registration is required.
SATURDAY STUDIO HOURS
YouthCAN!’s Community Imagination Studio Saturday Studio Hours.
All of Northwest Arkansas is invited to Saturday Studio Hours every week from 10-4! Please join us at the Community Imagination Studio, 818 N. Sang Ave. in Fayetteville. During Saturday Studio Hours, we open our doors to community members of all ages to come, use our studio space and art supplies to paint, draw, make collages, or get creative with clay. Staff artists will be on hand to help guide you. Each week, we will have featured projects that participants may also choose to participate in. Cost is $5 for adults and children. Free to parents of participating children.
Featured projects for Saturday, May 10th: This week we will be making art based off of art exhibitions from around the region. We will create 5 x 5 square compositions, painting landscapes and still life, and drawing with oil and chalk pastels.
Featured projects for Saturday, May 17th: This week we will be painting and drawing on alternative surfaces. The painting studio will also be open.
Featured projects for Saturday, May 24th: This Saturday we will take inspiration from the Museum of Modern Art in New York. We will discuss abstraction, provoking art, reinventing color, and the beauty that results when contemporary artists assign color decisions to chance. Then we’ll experiment with these ideas in a variety of drawing and painting media. The painting studio will also be open.
Featured projects for Saturday, May 31st - This Saturday’s inspiration are two shows at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City: Jasper Johns: Gray and Radiance from the Rain Forest: Feather work in Ancient Peru. After discussing these shows, we will make paintings with a limited color palette and experiment with feathers to create fans and headdresses. The painting studio will also be open.
MAY’S ARTIST WORKSHOP SERIES
The Community Imagination Studio invites all of Northwest Arkansas to participate in the Saturday Workshop Series. The Workshop Series will be held on the 3rd Saturday of every month and involves a demonstration of the facilitating artists’ methods, guided instruction, and a chance for participants to get feedback on their work.
May’s Saturday Workshop will be May 17th from 1-3. Join us to learn some basic cartoon drawing techniques with Sean Fitzgibbon. The Saturday Workshop Series will be $10 per participant. Registration is required. Just e-mail Alison to sign up! alison@communityimaginationstudio.org
MOMMY & ME ART CLASSES!
For Parents or Grandparents and their little ones ages 18 months-5 years of age. Together, you will explore art in all its wonderful messiness! Art teaches developmental and cognitive skills such as problem solving, cause and effect, color mixing, and many more! The masterpieces that you take home will be treasured for years! Class meets once a week on alternating Tuesdays & Wednesdays from 10 to 11 am. Cost is $10 per class, per child. Register for whole month and receive a $5 discount if you have more than one child.
Featured Projects for May 7th: This week’s theme is Plant Your Vegetables! We will make art about seeds and plants. Come and make a flower pot and draw step by step pictures of growing things.
Featured Projects for May 13th: This week we’ll talk about art on exhibit at local and regional art galleries and museums. We will make graphic design name plates, feather masks, head dresses, fans, and necklaces.
Featured Projects for May 21st: This week’s theme is Alphabet Soup! Come and make art with letters.
Featured Projects for May 27th: By Request! Moms Speak Out! What materials would you like to explore with your children? Send us your requests and we’ll come up with projects.
