24 Hour Film Festival
Derek Jenkins, Director of Video Arts, here. You might remember that the film section of Art Amiss VII was a bit more extravagant than years past. Well, Art Amiss VIII’s gonna continue the trend.
One of the most important things I think I can do as Director of Video Arts is actually encourage otherwise non-filmmaking members of my community to make some damn films already. I don’t mean the next lo-fi talkie starring some pudgy character actor, but films that people make just for the sake of making them.
Screw indie stardom. Film should be just another means of expression to hurl into the gaping maw of atomization and disconnection, a tremulous cry in the wilderness of modern life–not some commercial bullshit to accompany our ever-increasing junk food consumption.
Ahem. In other words, we should make films for each other and not for money. They should be cheap and fast and multitudinous. We have the technology; all we need now is the excuse.
So prepare for the ultimate test of your creative abilities, not to mention your plain old endurance and will: The first annual Art Amiss 24 Hour Film Festival will take place in conjunction with Art Amiss VIII. An unlimited number of teams from all over the state will race to complete a short film in the course of a single day.
A L S O: Participation is totally F R E E, and all participants will receive F R E E admission to the Art Amiss VII event.
