    Topical Weekend Clay Classes - NEW

    Flat Rock Clay is now offering on Saturdays, a series of 3 hr topical classes. Most of these sessions will be lead by David Johnson. David’s training was based on principals passed down through the Bauhaus, a tradition traced back to the 15th century in Germany. With over 30 years experience as a production potter, he offers answers to problems for all levels of clay enthusiasts.

    April 5, 2008: It’s a mug only a mother could love, can you Handle it?
    This workshop looks at the anatomy, production, and attachment of handles.

    April 19, 2008: This is for the Birds.
    Wheel thrown, slab, and extruded pieces to appeal to our feathered friends will be discussed and explored

    May 3, 2008: Spouting off, without being a drip.
    This workshop looks into several solutions for tea pot spouts and the lips of pitchers.

    May 10, 2008: Rainbow of Colors -taught by Kelley Wilks
    This workshop will look at mixing techniques and start you on the agateware trail with simple loaves.

    May 31, 2008: Boss said to put a Lid on it.
    Techniques of lid making will be demonstrated for a number of different solutions.

    June, 2008: Platters - Flat Rock not Mo Town, or did the dentist say open wide?
    This workshop will explore the techniques and problems associated with wheel thrown platters.

    June, 2008: Donuts - A favorite of policemen and potters.
    This session will explore the throwing of double wall piece to form a donut shape. Projects using this form as a starting point will also be discussed.

    June ,2008: This makes my Tiles curl (not toes) - taught by Kelley Wilks
    we will go over many tile making processes and what issues to think about when working large. We’ll conclude with a demonstration of a backsplash or address sign.
