I deal with this often as a visual artist. I have donated many paintings to charity events and auctions over the years and I still do, to those I truly believe in. However, it is most always at a financial loss to me personally. I have had to curtail my charitable giving severely due to only being able to claim costs of materials. This is a true shame.
