Dance Coalition (a local non-profit group of choreographers and dancers) to host 3rd Annual ‘So You Think You Know How to Dance’ Fundraiser to raise funds for continued local community dance events and dance education in Northwest Arkansas. Dancers and audience have the opportunity to come together in the spirit of fun to raise money to support a great local cause. Dance Coalition hosts dance workshops throughout the year with nationally known dance educators, dance concerts showcasing local dancers and choreographers, participates in local arts festivals, and is an education partner with community organizations like the Walton Arts Center and the Jones Center for Families. Dance Coalition strives to offer quality dance events and education opportunities at low costs in order to make dance opportunities accessible to all.
The 3rd Annual “So You Think You Know How to Dance?” Fundraiser will be held Friday, February 22, 2008, at Clarion Inn, 1255 South Shiloh Drive, Fayetteville, AR 72701. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. for a pre-event Appetizer hour and silent auction. The dance competition starts at 7:30 p.m. Admission for Appetizer hour, silent auction, and choice seating for the competition $25. Only $10 for general audience admission to the competition. Dancers register in advance for either Junior (age 7-13) or Senior (age 14-adult) competition by visiting www.dancecoalition.com, completing the registration form, and mailing it with their entry fee to Dance Coalition P.O. Box 10962, Fayetteville, AR 72703. Registrations must be received by Wednesday, February 20, 2008. Dancer sign-in begins at 6:00 p.m., and dancer orientation starts at 7:00 p.m. at the Clarion Inn Fayetteville on Friday, February 22nd, 2008.
Dancers of all styles and technical levels are invited to compete. Entries should depict a generally recognized style of dance (i.e., modern, ballroom, hip-hop, jazz, belly-dancing, ballet, break-dancing, etc.). The entry fee is $20 for solos and duos. Groups pay $20 to enter, plus $5 for each participant in addition to the first two members of the group.
The contest will consist of 2 rounds. During the first round, dancers will present their dance to the panel of judges and live audience, during which time the judges will select the top three dancers. The audience will then get to choose their favorite dancer from the top three during round 2 by voting with their dollar donations to Dance Coalition. The dancer who raises the most money for Dance Coalition during the final round will win. There will be separate voting and awards ceremonies for the Junior and Senior Competitions.
Winners will receive a scholarship to the next Dance Coalition workshop and a trophy. Additional recognition awards may be given at the judges’ discretion.

Feature entertainment for the evening will include dance performances by members of Dance Coalition’s board of directors, Ritmo Latino, The Art of Motion, Palillos!, Desert Fire Belly Dance, Ozark Dance Theater, and a special performance by last year’s winner, Emily Dison.
Dance Coalition is a non-profit group of local artists that have been creating and presenting their choreography in the Northwest Arkansas community since 1996. Dance Coalition presents an annual concert in the spring to showcase new choreography and talented dancers in the area, and the group continues to offer more events throughout the year.
