Arts live Theatre Spring 2008 Theatre Classes

February 11 – April 25

Arts Live Theatre, Northwest Arkansas’ only dedicated Children’s and Youth Theatre Company, announces its class schedule for the Spring, 2008 semester. Classes will begin the week of February 11th through the week of April 25th. Arts Live Theatre classes and productions are designed to provide theatrical training for children and youth from grades K-12, while also promoting self-confidence, creative skills and developing friendships.

STORYBOOK THEATRE, SPRING: Playmakers 1 (Grades K-1)
Your most beloved children’s stories come to life in this class where young actors are encouraged to explore their own thoughts, ideas and dreams through creative movement, music, theatre games and story telling. Students will also lean the foundational building blocks of the theatre and will perform a small piece on the final day of class, Monday, April 21st.

IMAGNATION EXPRESS SPRING!: Playmakers 1 (Grades K-1)
All aboard for fun in this class where you can be anything you imagine yourself to be, so let your imagination soar! The sky is the limit in this class as young actors explore their imaginations through theatre games, music and creative movement! A small performance will be given on the final day of class, Wednesday, April 23rd. Wednesdays, 4:00-4:45 p.m. $100 Enrollment limit - 8. Inst: Betty Anderson.

ONCE UPON A TIME, SPRING!: Playmakers 1 (Grades K-1)
Be an Astronaunt! A Cowboy! A Cowgirl! A Robot! A flying Tyrannasaurous Rex on roller skates! In this class you can be anything! Explore the imagination by creating fantastical
characters and stories through games and exercises! Students will design a small piece of their own for presentation on the final day of class, Thursday, April 24th. Thursdays, 4:00-4:45 p.m. $100 Enrollment limit - 8. Inst: Jules Taylor.

LET’S GIVE A SHOW!: Playmakers 2 (Grades 2-4)
In this class young actors will continue a deeper exploration of themes and character through a
series of theatre games, exercises, improvisations and script work focusing on early theatre
concepts utilizing the body, voice and the imagination. So let your imagination soar! A
presentation of class work will be given the final day of class, Monday, April 21st. Mondays,
5:00-6:00 p.m. $110 Enrollment limit – 10. Inst. Missy Gipson.

THE NOT READY FOR BEDTIME PLAYERS! Playmakers 2 (Grades 2-4)
It’s all in your bed head – your imagination, that is! Invent characters of any kind you want in
this class where creativity and inventiveness is encouraged through exciting theatre games,
group story telling and making up your own stories to act out! A presentation of class work will
be given on the final day of class, Tuesday, April 22nd. Tuesdays, 4:00-5:00 p.m. $110 Enrollment limit – 10. Inst. Betty Anderson

ACTING ADVENTURES! Playmakers 2 (Grades 2-4)
Acting is an adventure in this class as students explore the mysteries of acting by acting out
adventures of their own writing! Are you an explorer in deepest, darkest Africa? Are you
a pirate on a ship searching for buried treasure? Are you a super hero saving the world? Any
adventure you can create will be explored through theatre games, improvisations and physical and vocal work! A presentation of class work will be given the final day of class, Wednesday,
April 23rd. Wednesdays, 5:00-6:00 p.m. $110 Enrollment limit – 10. Inst. Missy Gipson.

THE ACTOR PREPARES: Intro to Acting (Grades 5-7)
Are you dying to take the stage but have only had a little or no experience? This is the class for you! A terrific class to lean theatre basics including terms and acting techniques designed to
bring out the actor in you! A presentation of class work will be given the final day of class,
Tuesday, April 22nd. Tuesdays, 5:00-6:00 p.m. $110 Enrollment limit – 10. Inst: Betty Anderson.

SPRING INTO IMPROV: Comedy Improv (Grades 5-7)
In this class students will learn basic comedy improv techniques used by the pro of television
and onstage! Learn to think on your feet, make strong choices and to be funny without even
trying! A presentation of class work will be given the final day of class, Monday, April 21st.
Mondays, 6:00-7:00 p.m. $110 Enrollment limit – 10. Inst: Missy Gipson.

THEATRE LAB CLASSES

BROADWAY BOUND: Advanced Acting (Grades 8-12)
Discover and develop your acting skills. Learn the vocal and physical techniques to bring
a character to life. Learn how to make props work for you and perform scenes with other
actors in class. A presentation of class work will be given the final day of class, Wednesday,
April 23rd. Wednesdays, 6:00-7:00 p.m. $110 Enrollment limit – 12. Inst: Missy Gipson.

COMEDY COMPANY: Comedy Improv Performance (Grades 8-12)
This advanced class will give students not only the opportunity to hone their Comedy Improv skills, but also the opportunity to perform one one Friday night monthly during February, March and April as the headliners at the Friday Night Comedy Club at Arts Live Theatre!
Thursdays, 5:00-6:00 p.m. $110 Enrollment limit – 10. Inst: Jules Taylor

LIGHTS! CAMERA! ACTION!: Television Production (Grades 8-12)
Production continues on the original ALT television series “Fayetteville 72701.” An ongoing
process, students produce two episodes monthly of this comedy series about the adventures
of a group of high school students! Students are involved in all aspects of production from story structuring to acting, writing, directing and technical aspects. Saturdays, 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. $150 Enrollment limit – 18. Inst: Mark Landon Smith & Jules Taylor.

In addition to the above classes, Arts Live Theatre will also be offering classes with their satellite programs at The New School, Benton County School of the Arts and St. Joseph’s Catholic School. Special one day workshops in professional development and special guests will also be offered throughout the semester.
