January is JAMPACKED with opportunities at Community Imagination Studio-A Division of YouthCAN Free Family Day, Saturday January 5th Welcome the New Year by creating personalized calendars, drawing a winter landscape with charcoal, or creating an original painting in our open painting studio. Knitting Workshop, Saturday January 19th 2 - 4 pm. With Alison Carter, Amy Brown, and More This workshop will introduce the basic techniques in the art of knitting. Participants will learn cast on, bind off, knit, purl, and receive guidance on starting their first project. We will have a supply of yarn available, but we advise that all participants please bring along a pair of size 10 or 13 knitting needles. Workshop fee is $10. We’ll be operating on a sign-up or show up basis for this workshop, but if you know you want to come please e-mail alison@artexplosions.org Studio Hours Every Saturday from 10 - 4 we open our doors to community members of all ages to use our studio space. We always provide two to three projects for you to choose from. We work in a variety of media: acrylic painting, drawing, collage, mixed media, and clay. A staff artist is present to help guide you. Cost is $5 per participant, but one adult is free for each child. For information about a particular Saturday’s projects look at the calendar on our studio’s home page – if you click on “Studio Hours” in a date box, an information bubble should appear with an outline of the projects. On display in our Main Gallery through the 29th: Community Imagination Studio Staff Artist’s Exhibition: For the month of January we will be exhibiting works created by our staff while working here in the studio! Upcoming Events: “Art from the Heart” Student Art Contest – our studio is a regional partner for the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute’s Annual Student Art Contest. If your child is in K-12 ask them to talk to their art teacher about how to submit their work, or come to the studio to create a submission! Our winter 2008 Mommy and Me Class dates for January are the 8th, 16 th, 22nd, and the 30th. February: 5th, 13th, 19th, 27th.
