Documentary, Musical Performance Tells Story of Ozark Childhood
The film tells the story of Ozark gospel singer Ernestine Gulledge Shepard, who will perform following the film along with the film’s producers, Alison Moore and Phil Lancaster.
In 1931, Ernestine Gulledge walked six miles of Ozark country roads selling seeds from a catalog so she could earn a guitar. In two weeks, she purchased a Silvertone guitar and left a trail of gardens behind her.
The film combines Shepard’s recollections with family photographs, footage of the Boston Mountain area and archival photographs of Ozark life from the Shiloh Museum.
The event is sponsored by the Roberta Fulbright Society. For more information, contact the Reference Desk at 571.2222 x4450. The event is free and open to the public.
