ROGERS, ARKANSAS (September 29th, 2006 – November 10th 2006) – Roger Carlisle is well known for his striking landscapes and he has exhibited throughout the country. His artwork can be found in more than a hundred private and corporate collections including the Grand Casino in Tunica, MS., Stephens Inc. in Little Rock, AR., and the First Tennessee Bank in Nashville, TN. and many others.

A graduate of the University of Nebraska, Roger Carlisle received his B.F.A in 1970 and M.F.A in 1973. Mr. Carlisle is a Professor of Art at Arkansas State University and has been a faculty member since 1974. He teaches drawing and painting courses at both, graduate and undergraduate levels, and is the drawing coordinator for the department.

In 1986 Mr. Carlisle was commissioned to design the Arkansas Sesquicentennial Stamp for the U.S. Postal Service, which printed 150 million of the stamps. He has also completed many other commissions including a mural measuring 8 feet by 24 feet to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Louisiana Purchase in 2003 by the Central Delta Historical Society in Brinkley, AR.

While his landscapes are praised highly and sought avidly, Carlisle nonetheless thinks of himself as an “abstract artist” because of his focus on “line, form, color, and composition. Those are the things I think about when I’m doing a Landscape”. In creating landscapes, he says, “I find it gives me an opportunity to use a great deal of color, diversity in texture, line and composition. However, the landscape is important to me and my involvement with it goes back to my grandfather and his love for his land”. When he paints, he tries to unify the many parts of the artwork to express the feeling of the landscape with the power of abstract painting.
