GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION:

This is a “host” position for a filmed program geared around getting “tweens” interested and involved with healthy eating, healthy cooking, and fitness through a school-based nutrition program called the Chewy Café™.

The program will center around interaction between the host, guest chef, 3 – 4 student participants, and possibly an animated character or student character.  The program will serve as classroom curriculum, and the audience for will be kids aged 11 – 15.

GENERAL PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS:

Gender:            Male

Age:                 18 – 30, depending on their general persona and ability to interact on a fun level with tweens (see “Personality Traits”).

Body Type:       Host doesn’t have to be a body builder, but should be in relatively good shape in order to model for the kids.

 

PERSONALITY TRAITS:

Host should have a young, fun-loving attitude; outgoing and relates well to tween kids.  Must have his finger on the pulse of today’s tween culture and be willing to get in and “mix it up” with the kids. 

 

Of great importance…the host must have an impeccable background with absolutely no skeletons in his closet and must be willing to sign a document stating such.  Excellent references are also required. Cooking skills are a plus.

 

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:

•   Host candidates must submit a head sheet with stats, as well as a paragraph or two on why they are qualified and why they want to be host of this program. A reel will also be accepted.

•   Final three candidates will be required to do a face-to-face script reading.

 

CHARACTER OVERVIEW

Mack is the host of Chewy Café™.  He has eclectic tastes in style and in food. The character graduated from cooking school in a foreign land and is somewhat of a culinary outcast. The character loves food and children and enjoys entertaining his visiting friends from far away places. He loves to cook and he loves to eat.  He also is crazy about all of the kids that come to his restaurant to try his wild and healthy creations. Mack has a ton of friends from culinary school that are now working in restaurants all over the world. They come to visit him often and love to show the kids how to make food for themselves.

NATF 2007 Script Competition Rules

 

The National Audio Theatre Festivals’ mission is to advocate the further development and practice of audio theatre.

The National Audio Theatre Festivals 2006-2007 Script Competition deadline is November 15, 2006 (postmarked). The winners will be announced in early April 2007.

 

THE SCRIPT

Audio theatre is a unique and collaborative medium. Like any good theatre, audio (or radio) theatre always begins with a well-written, perceptive, entertaining script. Use of sound and appropriateness to the medium is considered. Maximum length for this contest is 30 minutes.

 

PRIZES

$800 split between 2 – 4 authors and free workshop production participation. Prize winners and honorable mentions will be published in the annual NATF Scriptbook.

 

RIGHTS

NATF will have the right to produce winning scripts for the NATF live performance (Workshop) including broadcast and/or webcast; however, NATF makes no commitment to produce any script. The author retains all other rights to his or her work. If selected by NATF for production at a workshop event, a new rights agreement will be signed by the author at the time of production.

 

SUBMISSION RULES

1.   Send FOUR typed copies of your one audio script to: NATF Script Competition c/o Sue Zizza, 115 Dikeman Street, Hempstead, NY 11550 postmarked by November 15, 2006.

2.   The scripts will be judged by three audio theater professionals. The judging will be “blind.” The title page should include the title of the script, names of all authors, name and address, phone and fax numbers, and email address of the corresponding author. The subsequent pages should include only the manuscript title and page numbers.

3.   By entering this contest you are stating that the script is your own work and has not been produced or commissioned for pay by other theatre groups. The play must not be a previously produced script. Plays which have been previously produced professionally are not acceptable (this includes any situation in which the play was heard and the author or cast was paid for their work). Audio plays that have received college/university productions ONLY will be accepted.

4.   No adaptations of the work of other authors, stage plays, monologues, short stories or screenplays will be accepted.

5.   Only one entry per writer.

6.   No member of the NATF Board of Directors, or any person employed by NATF or members of their families are eligible to enter this competition.

7.   Enclose $25.00 entry fee.
