Struggling with the Blues in Savannah
Greedy Readers take on a debut novel
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The “immensely likable characters and irreverent humor” of Mary Kay Andrews’ debut novel “Savannah Blues” will be discussed at the Thursday 6:00 p.m., May 25, meeting of Fayetteville Public Library’s newest book club. Andrews, a former journalist who covered the “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil” murder trials, has penned a sassy mystery set among the antiques and gossip of old Savannah. Heroine Elise “Weezie” Foley juggles her divorced husband, his latest sexy fiancée, a gay ex-priest uncle, an on-and-off-again romance with an old high school flame, and the alcoholism of her mother. That is, until Weezie discovers the sexy fiancée in a dumpster stone-cold-dead and she is tagged as the prime suspect.
Andrews’ multilayered novel is filled with eccentric characters, tips on antiques and antiquing, and wry humor. She has captured the moss draped charm of Savannah, the smells of low country cooking and the gossipy ambience exuded among small Southern town residents. Herself an avid antique treasure hunter and self-described recovering journalist, Andrews resides in Atlanta.
The discussion, set for the last Thursday of the month, happens in the coffee friendly Ann Henry Board Room. Multiple copies of “Savannah Blues” are available for check-out. No registration is required and drop-ins are welcome. Need more information?
