He is an honor graduate of Jackson State University, where he earned both his B.S. and M.A. degrees in the area of Mass Communications with a concentration in Radio/TV Broadcasting. Franklin is also an award-winning producer of numerous audio documentaries.

Film Synopsis:
"Thunder Valley Wars" follows the legal, political, and personal battles surrounding the attempts by the City of Fayetteville, AR to restrict activities at Thunder Valley Speedway, a local stock car racing facility. The conflict involves not only the legalities of controlling activities outside the City limits, but also pits affluent against moderate income citizens and the track owner against the Alderwoman who moved across the street from the track.
Filmmaker’s Bio:
Marc Crandall is currently in the midst of a career change to a full time filmmaker. He currently runs a construction and property management company in Fayetteville, AR. He received an MBA from the Walton School of Business. He has been interested in filmmaking for the past several years and has crewed on several productions in NW Arkansas. “Thunder Valley Wars” is his first film.

"Sticks and Stones" looks at bullying from the perspective of a young victim. Based on the former real-life experiences of 12 year old director Ollie Robbins (11 at the time of filming), the action is set in a small UK town and takes place at the home and Junior School of the main character, Julian. Waking up as normal, Julian heads off to school with his two friends only to run into the bully, Aaron. Over several days, Aaron slowly makes Julian’s life at school unpleasant, teasing him, calling him names and pushing Julian to the limit. As Julian grows more and more frightened and begins sinking into depression, his friends resolve the bullying must stop.
Filmmaker’s Bio:
Ollie Robbins, 12 years old, was the youngest winner at this year’s JVC Tokyo Video Festival. He collected a "Selected Work" honor for his film - one of 70 chosen from over 2500 entries across the globe. Ollie used his classmates and teachers as actors and his primary school, Fordingbridge Junior, as his set. Ollie was thrilled to collaborate with 15 year old Arkansan Luke Schilling who provided the original music for the film.

Lisa Alvarado, painter, producer, and digital media artist grew up in Fort Smith, Arkansas but spent several years in Miami and Los Angeles working and learning about the film business. Lisa is the founder of NWAtalent.com, a creative talent database for the Northwest Arkansas area. She produced "Biker Stories", "Mama Lee. . .The Corny Ear", a 2-D animated video, and "Gail Stoops, Artist".

Film Synopsis:
Dan and Barbra Williams, a middle-aged couple are sent by their daughter off to a remote cabin for their anniversary. Unbeknownst to their daughter, Dan and Barbra are on the verge of divorce. Stuck in the cabin by the weather for three days, they’re left with only bitterness and sarcasm. Barbra discovers a journal left in the cabin with various entries from previous visitors. Flashbacks take us through the journal entries from the passionate love of a newlywed couple to the undying love of an old man left with only his memories. As Dan and Barbra read through the journal, they relive their own great memories and learn that the love they lost may onlyneed to be rekindled.
Filmmaker’s Bio:
For well over a decade, Michael has actively pursued his passion for filmmaking and to date as produced, directed and edited over 40 projects. From spec ads and music videos to documentaries, short films and features. In the fall of 2000, Michael graduated from Montany State University - Bzeman, with a B.A. in film and video production. His documentary on Pear Harbor survivors aired nationally on PBS. The documentary was selected as the best Non-Fiction film at the "Tracy Awards" and received the "Galusha Award".

Filmmaker’s Bio:
Carolyn Long is a 26 year television veteran who has garnered state and regional UPI and AP awards as a special assignments reporter and news anchor. She is also a recipient of the silver medal of honor from the International Film and Television Festival. Currently, she is a writer/producer for Jones Television specializing in non-profit media marketing and consulting. Carolyn Long is a former "Woman of the Year" as named by the readers of the state’s largest newspaper: The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. In addition, members of the Arkansas Legislature have passed a resolution in honor of her work. In May of this year, Jones Television was presented with three national "Telly" Awards for projects written, produced and edited by Long. There were more than 12 thousand entries.

"Sphere of Influence" tells the story of sculptor Hank Kaminskey’s creation of the Peace Prayer Fountain, which sits in front of the Fayetteville Town Center on teh downtown square in Fayetteville, Arkansas. By illuminating the separate elements of the bronze-sculpting process, the documentary explores the interrelatedness of artistic expression, technical prowess, intuition and rational problem-solving in the 18 month creation of a large bronze sphere. The film won awards for Best Documentary and Best Editing at the 2005 Outhouse Film Festival in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

"Second Sight" is from Siloam Springs, Arkansas. He is in his final year at John Brown University. Now Mark is a Pastor of a local church and has dedicated his life to his community, his church and God. Though he is blind, he is ready to see the future.
Filmmaker’s Bio:
Dan Soriano, a native of Mexico and student at John Brown University, plans to continue his path in digital video. While taking classes at JBU, he met Mark Rotramble. Dan saw his determination as a student and admired his good nature and compassion for others. Mark became an interesting subject for those involved in making this student film. Lisa Alvarado, also a digital media student at JBU, spent several days following Mark’s daily routine. Liz Smith, editor, completed this compelling story about an amazing young man’s journey to education and wisdom.

32 year old photographic artist Jason Hudson makes his living in still photography, specializing in wedding photojournalism. A very visual person all of his life; in early 2005 Jason started exploring video and short filmmaking. Jason describes himself as "a wanna-be amateur filmmaker." Although he is limited in his equipment and editing skills, Jason relies on natural/available light as much as possible. This is a carry over from his style of still photography. Born and raised in Fort Smith, Arkansas, Jason has called Fayetteville home since 1997. He has been married for seven years to Lena and has a six year old daughter named Amelia.

Aric Hornig lives in Eureka Springs, AR and is awaiting his first script sale for his and Robert Walker’s screenplay, "Blackbeard". Aric got his break when commissioned to film the "behind the scenes" footage of the Billy Bob Thornton/Lisa Blount movie "Chrystal" which was filmed in the Eureka Springs area. Robert Walker lives in Lewisville, TX, and wrote the short "3-Way" and collaborated with Hornig after wrapping "Chrystal". "3-Way" was filmed in three days. Hornig and Walker are currently finishing their second screenplay together.

After studying film theory under David Bordwell, a world renowned film scholar, Rice built a successful career as an art director for Activision before entering graduate film school in Austin, Texas. He is the first person in history to be awarded two Student Academy Award Nominations in two different categories in the same year. His work has been showcased in five screenings at the Director’s Guild of America Theatre, HBO’s U.S. Comedy Arts Festival, Aspen, Slamdance, Manhattan Short Film Festival, The Hamptons International Film Festival, Aspen Shortsfest and on Showtime. A recipient of a Texas Filmmakers Production Fund grant, Rice now teaches screenwriting at the University of Texas at Austin, writes scripts, and directs commercials. He recently edited the upcoming indie comedy "Partner(s)" and continues to work on his first book,

While working toward his degree in Political Science at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, Merritt published his second book of essays, poems, and short stories, "Coalescence". A year later, Merritt moved to New York and went to the New York Film Academy. "Light Lies," the first of a trilogy of black and white 16mm/MineDV/8mm shorts, written, directed and produced by Merritt Multimedia and Knowstrings Inc., is currently touring the festival circuit. Merritt is currently in pre-production of the second short, "Looking 4 the Man," and is editing a documentary of writer and film-maker Rick Schmidt, the author of "Feature Filmmaking at Used Car Prices," and the Cineposium 2005 held in Little Rock, Arkansas. Look for both projects Spring 2006.

Awakened one afternoon by some falling garbage, a bum faces a life changing decision. Without enough room in his cart to carry the thing he loves most and the new prize, he has to choose. Sometimes the things you love are the things you miss the most when they’re gone. This short was shot entirely in about 5 hours, in one afternoon. The entire budget was under $300. It was shot using the Panasonic ag-dvx100 mini dv camera and edited in Final Cut Pro.
Filmmaker’s Bio:
Greg Hartman has been shooting for about 7 years and directing for about 3 years. He has worked at a video post house for 7 years. He loves movies, music and his wife - not in that order. David Yates has been working at a production company for three years. He graduated from University of Arkansas Fort Smith, with a degree in digital design.

"22 Straight" tells the story of when the Razorbacks dominated college football, won a National Championship, and put together the longest winning streak in the 1960’s. Narrated by NBC Sports Announcer Charlie Jones, "22 Straight" includes rare, never-before-seen footage and in-depth interviews with the players and coaches. "22 Straight" is a film dedicated to those players and coaches who "laid it on the line" for those 1964-65 Razorback Championship teams.
"22 Straight" is a story that needed to be told as we celebrate the 40th anniversary of Arkansas’ historic National Championship in 1964.
Filmmaker’s Bio:
Larry Foley is a professor in the University of Arkansas Department of Journalism.
His productions have earned national and international awards, including an Emmy, first place awards from the Broadcast Education Association, WorldFest Houston, the Aurora Film Festival, and the International Film and Video Festival. His PBS credits include "Saving the Eagles", "The Lost Squadron and When Lightning Struck". His documentary credits include "22 Straight", "The Forgotten Expedition", "It Started Here: Early Arkansas and the Louisiana Purchase", "Sanatorium Hill", "Arkansas’ Natural Heritage", "Out of the Woods", "The Keetoowahs Come Home", "The Black Swamp", "The Governor from Greasy Creek", "Arkansas-A Special Place", "Hell on the Border", and "Natural, Wild & Free."
Foley spent nine years at the Arkansas Educational Television Network as a producer, programmer, and associate director of the network. He is a former reporter, morning news anchor, assignment editor and producer for KATV Channel 7, Little Rock.
Foley returned to his alma mater in 1993 to teach, produce documentaries, and build and direct a center for teaching television reporting and production. In 1996, he founded the campus television station, UATV, for which he serves as faculty adviser. In October 2003, he was inducted into the Lemke Department of Journalism’s Hall of Honor, the highest award bestowed upon UA journalism graduates. In 1998, he received a Master Researcher award from the J. W. Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences.
