Artists seeking to create a cultural arts district have formed two sub-committees devoted to the two priorities the Fayetteville Downtown Partners identified.

Separate, focused meetings will take place with goals of coordinating the Fayetteville Arts Festival and establishing boundaries of a proposed cultural arts district.

Until now, participants in the cultural arts initiative have discussed at eachmonthly meeting all their objectives.

Downtown partners executive director Daniel Hintz told the crowd of nearly 16 Tuesday more could be accomplished through the smaller, more directed efforts.

“We can’t be talking about all six of these (items) every time, or we would never get anything done,” he said.

Hintz regarded the arts festival and cultural arts district boundaries as the most pressing of six items identified at the initiative meeting in March.

Timing made the arts festival a priority; it’s scheduled for Aug. 23-28.

The arts festival sub-committee will meet at 6 p.m. May 10, while the group looking at district boundaries will convene at 6 p.m. May 17.

Those discussions will occur with Hintz and downtown partners board President Sharon Hoover.

The results will either be presented to the cultural arts district initiative or the downtown partners board.

Other elements sought by the initiative include establishing a Fayetteville Arts Commission, writing and implementing a public art policy/defining and developing a “Museum Without Walls,” developing and supporting a sustainable downtown gallery arts walk, and facilitating the certification of Arts in Education-rostered artists.
