CADI MEETING NOTES

April 26, 2005, 6-7 p.m.

Blair Library Meeting Room

The Fayetteville Downtown Partners’ Cultural Arts District Initiative group met on April 26th to chat about the various “To Do” items identified during the last round of conversations.

Those items were placed into order of priority and included:

• Establish a Fayetteville Arts Council
• Produce an expanded Fayetteville Arts Festival
• Define boundaries of a Cultural Arts District
• Write and implement a public art policy/define and develop a Museum Without Wall concept
• Develop and support a sustainable Downtown Gallery Arts Walk
• Facilitate certification of AIE/Rostered Artists at the state level

Each item on this “To Do” list has multiple components and some, like the establishment of the Fayetteville Arts Council, may be some time off.
Even though Fayetteville Downtown Partners may not be able to take the lead on each “To Do” item, our organization will continue to advocate for the implementation of this list.

Several of our partners have taken up the torch and FDP looks forward to helping as best we can in their efforts.

Some examples include:

• The Blair Library’s Public Art Task Force to establish a public art policy at the library
• The downtown gallery arts walks produced by Casey Hamaker, owner of Iris Gallery

This is truly a community effort and we thank each of you for the hard work and dedication to:

• Increase opportunities for artists
• Strengthen the arts infrastructure
• Increase audiences for the arts
• Enhance young people’s access to the arts

Over the next several months, FDP will be focusing on producing an expanded Fayetteville Arts Festival and defining the boundaries of a Cultural Arts District.

The next meetings that will deal specifically with these items are:

Fayetteville Arts Festival Artistic Director’s Meeting: Tuesday, May 10th , 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Blair Library, 2nd Floor Study Room

Cultural Arts District: Wednesday, May 18th , 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Blair Library Board Room - Jessica Whaley of Urban Place Consulting will be there to facilitate this meeting.
