This Month: Discovering the art galleries of Northwest Arkansas

While scenic mountains, crystal lakes and colorful sunsets are the grand masterpieces for which Arkansas is best known, there are countless other works of art to be found across the state – especially in Northwest Arkansas. In fact, Northwest Arkansas offers more opportunities to experience culture through the arts than probably anywhere else in the state. The region’s cultural scene continues to flourish with nationally respected venues for the performing arts as well as commercial art galleries and community exhibition spaces – from Fayetteville north to Bella Vista and Eureka Springs west to Siloam Springs. Musical offerings range from a lively club scene featuring a variety of local and regional acts to a vital jazz community and the acclaimed North Arkansas Symphony Orchestra. From community-based theater troupes to nationally touring Broadway productions, the stages of Northwest Arkansas play host to some of the best in live performance art.

And, whether your interests run to contemporary or traditional art, aviation history, native cultures or regional history, the area’s many museums and art galleries truly offer something for everyone. In Northwest Arkansas, art is lifestyle: Sculptures, murals and paintings can be found not only in museums and galleries but also along sidewalks and roadways and adorning building façades and outdoor plazas. Original works don the walls of coffeehouses, restaurants and salons. Art is truly everywhere.

As a general resource for readers, presented here is a listing of the many galleries to be found throughout Benton and Washington counties. From self-representing artist studios to commercial art galleries to institutional exhibition spaces, and spanning numerous mediums from painting and photography to sculpture and pottery, we hope you will find this guide to be a useful tool when embarking on your own journey of exploration into the cultural landscape of Northwest Arkansas. –Aaron Bleidt
